What We Believe
As a faith-based organization, Maywood Mission believes it is important to clearly convey what we consider to be the essential beliefs of our Christian faith. These beliefs inform our ministry and work.
While we acknowledge there are many non-essential beliefs within the Christian faith, such debates are detrimental distractions to the missional work we are called to at Maywood Mission. We must have unity regarding essentials and not divide over non-essentials.

We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person. We believe, based on the teaching of the Scriptures in both the Old and New Testaments, that marriage is a sacred institution ordained by God from the foundation of the world, and intended as a lifelong union between one man and one woman. Marriage between one man and one woman also represents the relationship between Christ and the Church.

We believe that sexuality is a gift from God and basic to human identity and that sexual intimacy is to only take place within the context of a marriage covenant between a man and a woman in which they vow and commit, with God’s help, to build a loving, life-giving, faithful relationship that will last for a lifetime. We believe that any form of sexual immorality, such as adultery, fornication, homosexuality, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, use of pornography, any attempt to change one’s biological sex, or disagreement with one’s biological sex, is sinful and offensive to God.
We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ.

We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual will not be tolerated because they are not in accord with Scripture.
